the invisible benefits of exercise
There’s nothing wrong with having body composition goals, but let’s not forget that the benefits of physical activity extend far beyond what your body looks like.
Visual changes in the mirror may keep you motivated, but they can also distract you from what’s really happening under the hood.
Here’s what the mirror won’t show you:
Regular exercise will improve:
Blood pressure
Bone Density
Cholesterol
Mental Health
Digestive health
Mobility
Memory
Sleep
Respiratory health
Metabolism
Immunity
Balance and coordination
Glucose/insulin resistance
Power, strength, endurance
It’ll also decrease your risk of certain cancers, dementia, heart disease, T2 diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, and stroke.
We could honestly keep going, but you probably just skimmed that list anyway, so as long as you understand that exercise is literally saving your life, the number on the scale starts to matter much less to you than it originally did.
Remember, every time you get frustrated about your body composition progress or the number on the scale, realize that the invisible progress you are making is much more important to your mind and body than you think. KEEP GOING!
